The Government of Madhya Pradesh on July 23, 2026, issued the Madhya Pradesh Ayurvigyan Vishwavidyalaya (Sanshodhan) Bill, 2026, further to amend the Madhya Pradesh Ayurvigyan Vishwavidyalaya Adhiniyam, 2011.
The following has amended, namely:
• The Bill proposes to align the existing University with the establishment of the proposed Madhya Pradesh Dhanvantari Swasthya University at Ujjain and to clearly demarcate the jurisdiction and administrative responsibilities of the two Universities. The Bill proposes replacing the term “Ayurvigyan” with “Swasthya”, thereby renaming the University as Madhya Pradesh Swasthya Vishwavidyalaya, and replacing “Medical Education” with “Public Health & Medical Education” and “Rector” with “Pro Vice-Chancellor” throughout the Act.
• The Bill specifically limits the University's jurisdiction to districts listed in a newly inserted Schedule II, covering districts in the Jabalpur, Sagar, Rewa and Shahdol divisions. It also updates the Act to recognize the National Medical Commission, National Dental Commission, National Commission for Homoeopathy and National Commission for Indian System of Medicine and requires institutions seeking consideration under relevant provisions to have approval from the concerned national regulatory commission or the Madhya Pradesh Government.
• Further, the Bill changes the Vice-Chancellor appointment criteria: the Chancellor will appoint the Vice-Chancellor from a panel of at least three candidates, with the candidate required to possess high competence, integrity and institutional commitment and generally at least 10 years' experience as a Professor in health education or equivalent distinguished academic/leadership experience. A person above 66 years of age will not be eligible for appointment or reappointment.
• The Bill also modifies Section 51, including extending the relevant period from one year to three years, and renumbers the existing Schedule as Schedule I while inserting the new Schedule II specifying the University's territorial jurisdiction.
